This workshop focuses on flash fiction, also known as short short stories. Includes in-class writing exercises, discussion on turning fragments into flash, and an overview of flash fiction markets.

Come prepared to write! By the end of the class you will have 3-4 “word lumps” and the knowledge required to turn them into actual flash fiction pieces.
One innovative modern form is the flash fiction story, ranging anywhere from a few words to one or two thousand. This form lends itself well to the surreal, the hyperbolic, and the fantastic, as well as more literary efforts. In this workshop, we'll talk about the form and its demands and perform in-class writing exercises designed to get you started writing flash fiction, followed by a discussion of how to turn your fragments into flash, how to submit them to magazines, and an overview of flash fiction markets.
