The Physics of Ballet series is an opportunity for kids ages 12+ to explore art, science, and the connection between the two in an engaging class focused on the physics behind ballet technique.
UPDATE: We have opened this class up to include younger aged dancers. We hope you'll join us!
No prior dance experience necessary! The Physics of Ballet is a six-class introductory series focused on the physical concepts behind ballet technique, with lessons including the role of center of mass in balancing, torque in turning, and projectile motion in leaps. The goal of this class is to improve ballet technique through knowledge of the physics behind the steps, an application that will help create a deeper understanding of physical concepts in a fun and engaging setting. Classes are one hour long and include a physics lesson, a ballet workshop applying the concept to dance technique, and a rehearsal for the performance at the end of the program. The show will be open to friends and family and is an opportunity for participants to apply the physics knowledge they gained throughout to a ballet routine. The Physics of Ballet is an active and intellectually stimulating class with an emphasis on the fascinating connections between dance, math, and physics, and is open to all kids ages 12-18 who want to explore art and science together.
