In an era marked by political polarization, what happens when two strangers, each with distinct political views, come together to share the stories that define their lives? South Bend is proud to be one of only five communities chosen this year to participate in StoryCorps' impactful One Small Step initiative, a nationwide effort to emphasize the shared humanity that unites us all.
Over the past few months, individuals from Michiana have engaged in conversations through One Small Step, steering away from political debates and instead focusing on the personal narratives that connect us as human beings.
On Sunday, December 3rd, the community is invited to a special listening event at the Leighton Auditorium in the St. Joseph County Public Library Main Branch. Discover the profound experiences of your friends and neighbors as they share their stories through One Small Step. Additionally, gain insights from experts in mediation, peace-building, and dialogue, who will shed light on the significance of these small steps towards understanding.

About One Small Step:
Created by StoryCorps, One Small Step is an effort to remind the country of the humanity in all of us, even those with whom we disagree. The initiative brings strangers with different political views together to record a 50-minute conversation—not to debate politics, but to learn who we are as people. Audio recordings of each interview are archived at the Library of Congress.
About 88.1 WVPE:The mission of 88.1 WVPE Public Radio is to be a vital communications resource that educates, entertains and inspires the communities we serve. We do this through programming, services, and events reflective of our culture and diversity to create a more informed public.
