Join Terri Russ, professor at Saint Mary's College, for a discussion of racial inequality, the concept of white fragility, and what we can do to engage more constructively with our ideas about race.

In the book White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Race, professor Robin DiAngelo explains the phenomenon of white fragility, the counterproductive reactions white people have when their assumptions about race are challenged. Drawing on research and twenty years’ experience as a consultant and trainer on issues of racial and social justice issues, DiAngelo explores how white fragility develops, how it protects racial inequality, and what we can do to engage more constructively. She discusses her own white privilege in a forthright manner that invites the reader to do the same.

Terri L. Russ, associate professor of communication at Saint Mary’s College, moderates this discussion. Space is limited and registration is required.

This event is co-sponsored by the League of Women Voters’ Read IN with the League.

Check the book out at SJCPL.org or receive a 20% discount off the purchase of the book at The Brain Lair using the code LWV20. The Brain Lair is located at 714 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend.
