This weekly series starts with an overview of the book. Then, join local experts to learn more about the neuroscience of trauma, its effects on our community today, and resources available to help.

Author Bessel Van der Kolk, one of the world's foremost experts on trauma, shows how extreme stress literally reshapes both body and brain, compromising sufferers' capacities for pleasure, engagement, self-control, and trust. He explores innovative treatments that offer new paths to recovery.

From September 22 to October 20, each Tuesday at 6pm, join local experts from Notre Dame, Oaklawn, Beacon, the St. Joseph County Health Department, Northern Michiana YMCA, and more.

9.22.20: An Overview of The Body Keeps the Score: Trauma, how it impacts our biology, and paths to recovery

9.29.20: The Neurobiology of Trauma: Development, attachment, adaptive responses to trauma, the impact of support

10.6.20: Trauma & Mental Health in our Community: local professionals in education, health care, and community mental health share their insight on the local presence of trauma and the impact of trauma informed responses

10.13.20: Trauma Responsive Resources in St. Joe County: Hear from and about a variety of resiliency-building organizations and programs responding to the needs of youth, adults and families and how to get involved

10.20.20:  Self-Healing Communities: The ways we heal come from within. How have other communities responded to trauma? What can we do in St. Joe County? What can YOU do? Bring your ideas & be ready for a great brainstorming session as we wrap up the series with an exciting call to action.

These sessions meet requirements for Category II CEUs for mental health professionals, and Foster Parent Continuing Education credits.
