Explore the states of matter in exciting new ways through interactive science experiments. Join us to investigate the materials that mix and transform to make up our world. Ages 6 to 11 are welcome.
Experiments will include:
1. Smoke Bubbles--created by combining dish soap with dry ice and water. These are fun and interactive as they can be bounced around and caught with cloth gloves.
2. Dancing Raisins-- drop raisins into carbonated and still water then watch them dance up and down in the club soda. This exercise allows kids to practice making hypotheses and speculate why a physical phenomenon is observed.
3. Oobleck--mixing cornstarch and water ( a liquid and a solid) creates a baffling state of matter known as a non-Newtonian fluid that acts as both a liquid and a solid depending on the pressure applied to it.
4. Jolly Rancher Glass Blowing--(demo, NOT interactive) In this demo jolly ranchers are taken through all 3 states of matter beginning as a solid, melting into a liquid, then as they are filled with air the material stretches just like blown glass.
