Western Meeting RoomStep into the role of a structural engineer in this hands-on lab. You will work with others to design, build, and test load-bearing structures using simple materials. Ages 8-12 recommended.
In this lab you will get a short overview of different types of bridges and how they are designed to carry weight. Use popsicle sticks, rubber bands, twine, different types of tape, cardboard, paper, wooden dowels and more to create a bridge between two tabletops. Your team will only have about 45 minutes to build your creation! At the end of the lab, we will do a load bearing test to calculate how much weight it can hold.
