Nobel Prize Panel Discussion for 2025 and Why they Matter

The 2025 Nobel prizes in Physics, Chemistry, and Medicine were announced in early October. Faculty from the University of Notre Dame and Indiana University South Bend will provide background on understanding the research that led to receiving one of the highest recognitions in science at an international level. This will be a discussion panel and opportunity to ask questions of people with expertise in these areas of research.

The Our Universe Revealed Lecture will feature Adam Jaffe and Boldizsar Janko talking about the 2025 Nobel Prizes in Chemistry, and Physics.

• Adam Jaffe, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at University of Notre Dame will discuss the science behind the Chemistry prize. The 2025 Nobel was awarded to 3 scientists for their development of metal-organic molecules that can be used to “capture carbon dioxide, store toxic gases or catalyse chemical reactions”.
• Boldizsar Janko, Department of Physics and Astronomy at University of Notre Dame, will discuss the science behind the Physics 2025 Physics prize. The 2025 Nobel was awarded to 3 scientists for demonstrating how quantum mechanical properties can occur at larger spatial scales with implications for digital technology and quantum sensors.
